Memes/Hops

Doing a little hopping today…

I haven’t participated in any blog hops in… a week, or maybe a little longer.  So, I thought I’d join in on a few today.  If you’ve never joined a blog hop, you should try it today.  It’s a great way to find fabulous new blogs to read and make awesome new blogging friends.

If you’re visiting from a hop, then I’d like to say hello and welcome!  Guess I just did that huh?  ;)   Feel free to poke around, read a little, and be sure to leave a comment!  I ♥ comments!  You can learn about the person behind the blog, Me, here… and here… and here.

You can also read some of my favorite posts (though I’m not sure favorite is the right word) here, here and here.  And I’d be ever so grateful if you’d go here and vote for my little blog.

My Meet Me on Monday Q&A:

What is your favorite pasta dish? I love love love fettuccine alfredo. Shrimp fettuccine alfredo. Chicken fettuccine alfredo. Anything with fettuccine and alfredo. I’m really a pasta fanatic… it’s a staple in my kitchen!

What is the last thing you do before going to bed? The very last thing I do before going to bed is turn out all the lights and take off my glasses. (I’m usually the last one to bed.) The very last thing I do before going to sleep is pray.

How many nights a week do you go out to eat? We don’t eat out often. We used to, but our budget doesn’t allow for it anymore. So now, we only eat out about once a month.

Are you an avid book reader? YES I am. I love reading; love diving into a good book; love getting lost in the pages.   I’m currently reading Outlive Your Life by Max Lucado for an upcoming review.  My love of reading is why I do book reviews!

Would you rather have x-ray vision or bionic hearing? Hmmm…. this is a tough one. But I think I’ll have to go with bionic hearing. With bionic hearing I’d be able to hear what the kids are up to all the time. :D

These are the hops I’m participating in today. Now I’m off to read some blogs!

My week… in fragments

Mommy's IdeaI was in the kitchen washing dishes and having a conversation with the oldest son. During the conversation, I had an urge to go so I told him to “Hold that thought.” As I walked into the bathroom, I heard him humming the Jeopardy tune. He finished up as I walked back into the kitchen. That boy’s just not right.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Speaking of the oldest… hubs, son, and I were having a conversation about people from Mississippi (famous people). As we were talking about bands, I asked the oldest “Guess who else is from Mississippi?” to which he replied “I don’t know.” I said “3 Doors Down of course.” Then hubs said “What about Brett Favre?” to which son said “I didn’t know that.” Hubs and I both looked at him like he was nuts and at the same time he started laughing and said…. “I just realized what you said. For some reason when you said Bret Favre my brain was thinking Jeff Gordon.” WhaHUH? HOW do you get Jeff Gordon out of Bret Favre?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Apparently the thing to do when coming home from school on a Friday and having the following Monday off for a holiday is… running back and forth through the house saying “YES YES YES.” Lil Man gives a whole new meaning to ‘chicken with his head cut off.’

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
‘We interrupt this marriage to bring you… FOOTBALL SEASON!’
College football kicked off Saturday. My team won. Against an unranked team. I’m happy they won. But… an unranked team. Nothing to jump up and down about. Then again, their 25th consecutive regular season win IS something to jump up and down about. Yeah. *doing a happy dance* (For the record, Hubby’s #2 team lost… it wasn’t a pretty loss either. Better luck next time. Maybe.  I say #2 team because he has come over to my side… I’ve recruited him to MY team!  Yay me!  Plus, his team really made him mad.  Long story.  Stupid story.  One that changed the entire history of the college. Oh well.)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Took my Lil Man to the doctor on Tuesday– he’d been complaining of his ear hurting and running fever since Sunday.  The doctor’s appointment went good until it was time for the s-h-o-t.  He worked himself up pretty good about it, then when the time came, didn’t even know he’d been stuck.  I had him laying on his side facing away from the nurse, and told him to take deep breaths like the doctor had him doing.  As soon as he exhaled the second time, she got him.  He never even felt it.  Later… he laughed about the bright fluorescent orange smiley face band-aid that was on his booty.  And I should add… he would NOT let me take it off!  (Oh, and the diagnosis was strep.  Ugh.)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Our air conditioner went out on Wednesday… can you say HOT?!  Wednesday night was pretty miserable for all of us.  The AC repair man came out yesterday and had it fixed within 10 minutes.  I could have kissed him!  (Not literally of course.)  I think I thanked him about a million times.  I was never so happy to feel cool air again.  I tell ya… I really believe that little saying “don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone” now.  I sure do love my cold air!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Priss and I got hair cuts this week.  I went completely different… and suggested a certain cut for Priss so our hairstyles would be different.  She seemed to think this was a great idea because we did have the same style (or she had the same style as me considering I’ve had the same style for about 12-13 years.  How incredibly boring am I?).  I went with a totally different look…. hair cut to the shoulders, layered, with bangs.  I haven’t had bangs since 1997 or so.  When it was Priss’s turn, she ended up describing the exact same cut I’d just gotten.  We convinced her to go no-layers, only cut off about an inch or so, and do thin whispy bangs.  When it was all said and done, she thanked me for talking her into the cut she got… because now we don’t look alike.   (Is that really so bad?)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
While looking over my Friday fragments, I realized I really lead a boring life…lol.  Oh well.  I love this boring life.  And it’s really not as boring as it sounds honest… the kids keep us in stitches most of the time.  Because they’re all nuts, and stuff.  ;)
A funny, some hops, and TGIF!
I was due for a pap smear with the doctor later in the week. Early one morning, I received a call from the doctor’s office to tell me that I had been rescheduled for that morning at 9:30 am . I had only just packed everyone off to work and school, and it was already around 8:45 am. The trip to his office took about 35 minutes, so I didn’t have any time to spare.
As most women do, I like to take a little extra effort over hygiene when making such visits, but this time I wasn’t going to be able to make the full effort. So, I rushed upstairs, threw off my pajamas, wet the facecloth that was sitting next to the sink, and gave myself a quick wash in that area to make sure I was at least presentable. I threw the facecloth in the clothes basket, donned some clothes, hopped in the car and raced to my appointment.
I was in the waiting room for only a few minutes when I was called in.  Knowing the procedure, as I’m sure you do, I hopped up on the table, looked over at the other side of the room and pretended that I was in Paris or some other place a million miles away.  I was a little surprised when the doctor said, ‘My, we have made an extra effort this morning, haven’t we?’
I didn’t respond.
After the appointment, I heaved a sigh of relief and went home.  The rest of the day was normal – some shopping, cleaning, and cooking.
After school when my 7 year old daughter was playing, she called out from the bathroom, ‘Mommy, where’s my facecloth?’
I told her to get another one from the cupboard.
She replied, ‘No, I need the one that was here by the sink, it had all my glitter saved inside it.’
I’m NEVER going back to that doctor!!! EVER!!!
1. What do you do when you have time to yourself? haha…that’s assuming I have time to myself! Ok ok, so I do get some time, once in a blue moon. And when that once in a blue moon moment is here… I do absolutely nothing! I turn the tv off and sit in the absolute silence. Sometimes I read, most times I just sit back with my eyes closed and enjoy the peacefulness of the silence.
2. When you look out your kitchen window, what do you see? the only tree left in my yard (April’s tornado got the rest), lots of kids toys, sand box, lawn furniture, grass…lol
3. Who/What would you want to be reincarnated as? Well, since I don’t believe in reincarnation… nothing. Ok, just for fun… I think I’d like to be either a dolphin (because I just love dolphins and they swim in the wide open sea and they are very intelligent) or a bird (because they can fly and fly and fly). I’d rather be the dolphin…lol
4. What is your biggest pet peeve about other people’s kids? Oh man, I could write an entire post about this one! I’d say my biggest pet peeve would be lack of respect. A lot of parents just don’t seem to think it’s necessary to teach their kids to respect adults… themselves or others. There is nothing worse than a smart-mouthed disrespectful kid… makes you want to yank them up by their ears! lol
5. Regular or Diet soda? Regular baby! I want alllll those calories…lol
Hot dog I’m rich! Woohoo!
Big Stack of CashIf I had a penny for every time I’ve gotten one of these ‘winning’ spam emails, I’d be able to buy a gallon of gas! (What? Gas is expensive these days… that’s a lot of pennies!) :P Today, I am a millionaire! I’ve won an inheritance of $5 million U.S. dollars only. WOW! It’s waiting for me at the Central Bank of Nigeria! All I have to do is call the number listed and all $5 million (U.S. dollars only) will be wired to Bank of America… and I’ll be super duper rich! I’m just stunned that some stranger would leave me such a sum of money! [insert major sarcasm here]
I wonder if anyone actually believes those kinds of emails? I mean, really… they couldn’t, right?
Ok, so I’ve taken a slight break from the blog-hops this week… I needed some time to rejuvenate because I was spending hours (yes HOURS) reading blogs linked up to these hops. Yes that’s a good thing because I’ve found some really amazing blogs this way… but… HOURS. That makes my day really REALLY long… with all the stuff I have to do offline, ya know.
I’m a gonna do some hopping today however. I have a new strategy… one that will +hopefully+ lead me to great blogs without spending hours on end clicking through links. So here we go with the hopping… hold on, it’s gonna be a bumpy ride!
2 Truths and a Lie2 Truths and a Lie: hmmm… ok here goes:
  1. I’m a major book worm. I have over 100 books in my collection and have read them all.
  2. I’m also a movie and music junkie. At last count, I had nearly 400 CDs and over 100 DVDs and have listened to or watched them all at least once.
  3. I’m pretty picky (OCD) about how things are arranged. For example, all my DVDs are labeled and in alphabetical order by title– like books in a library. My books, however, are in order by author and date published.
So, can you tell me which is truth and which is not? ;)
I am thankful that my parents have the opportunity to take a long (15 day) vacation to one of the places they have always wanted to vacation (Hawaii) in honor of their 30th anniversary this past June. (In case you are confused, it is my Mom and Step-Dad. That’s why the anniversary year that is younger than I am old…lol). They have been the best parents anyone could ask for, and they both deserve to take time off and focus on each other! (I’d love if you’d pray for their safety while on vacation… they leave on Saturday and are flying out, 8 hour flight.)
 Tell Us Something Good I was asked to teach the 3rd-6th grade Discipleship class at my church starting next Sunday night, the 12th. I am very excited about this, and about the age group. This is an impressionable age group… the age when bullying in school starts along with peer pressure. I can’t wait to share Jesus with these kids and teach them lessons that will apply to their everyday lives, including school! Maybe, hopefully, with His help, I can make a difference- leave an impression that will carry on with them throughout their school days and the rest of their lives!
Getting to know you.. me.. us.. huh?
This has always been one of my favorite songs, by my absolute FAVORITE band… and for this Music Monday, I thought this would be fitting given the 5 year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina has just passed. This video includes footage from the Mississippi Gulf Coast (where the band is from).
I was a very happy girl when I opened my mailbox on Thursday because I received the TWO books I requested from BookSneeze. I was honestly like a little kid at Christmas time! I love books, and I love reading, and I had been patiently waiting for just over a week for these books. YAY!
1. What is your favorite kind of potato chip? I’m not a big fan of potato chips, but when I do eat them, it’s usually just plain white tortilla chips with queso cheese dip.
2. Do you make your bed everyday? Most of the time… sometimes I get lazy (usually because I’m busy on the compy…lol). I have this thing where I don’t feel like my room is clean if my bed isn’t made.
3. How often do you go to the hair salon? hahaha…that’s a good one! About once every 9-12 months.
4. What do you dip your French fries in? Depends on what I’m eating them with.. if burgers, I dip them in ketchup; if chicken strips (one of my faves!) I dip them in Ranch dressing; and then sometimes I just eat them without anything else and dip them in queso cheese dip.
5. Do you shop with coupons? Sometimes. I’m not the best in the world about clipping coupons, but if I see some that I can use, I grab them up!
PhotobucketQuestion of the Week: What is your favorite season? I live in Mississippi, which means HOT HOT HOT (did I mention hot?) summers (and boy oh boy has this one been some kinda hot!); and winters that are rather mild, usually wet, and IF we’re lucky we get a dusting of snow (but that doesn’t happen very often at all). But spring… oh how I love spring! When the trees are turning green, the grass is beginning to grow, and the flowers are blooming. It’s like having a front row seat to nature awakening after a long nap.  Color color everywhere! And the temps… nice and mild… the kind of weather that just begs me to be outdoors! (Of course, we do get a lot of really bad storms in the transition from winter to spring, but still…) I love spring!
GiveawayBlogdomQuestion of the Week: Do you return your cart to the corral at the grocery store? How did you know?  Have you been watching me?  Oooh, is there a  hidden camera?  lol  Sometimes I do but most of the time I don’t.  And the reason I don’t is that the majority of the time returning it would involve going all the way back inside the store or walking halfway across the parking lot which I’m not willing to do because I’d either have to leave Little Man in the vehicle by himself or bring him with me… and, by the time I get to my vehicle, I’m ready to GO.  The times I do return it… it’s really close, like one or two vehicles over.
