Good Stuffs

Cold Saturday with a warm cuppa…

I have enjoyed the first part of my morning with a warm cup of coffee in complete silence… before the kids woke. Why I was up so early on a Saturday morning is beyond me– okay, so actually it’s not; it’s that internal alarm clock thing that refuses to stay set on snooze. But that’s okay, because  like I said, I enjoyed a warm cup of coffee in complete silence.

One of the sweet parts of my morning was enjoying all the puppy kisses I was getting. It’s so sweet to be greeted by three happy little pups who are very excited to see you awake. Ahhh, the love of a puppy.

These three little cuties have been keeping me busy all morning… and all week! Aren’t they so sweet?

I don’t mind the busy-ness at all because for the first time in seven weeks now, I feel like being busy! I have finished my meds (I was a good girl) and am feeling better than I have in almost two month.  Praise God! Hopefully I won’t have to have a second round of antibiotics like so many others have. I can still feel some ‘crud’ in my lungs, but it’s so much better than it was!

Now I’m off to get back to being busy.  My to-do list is so very long and, of course, catching up on my blogging is on that list!

I hope you have a fabulous Saturday!

A food for thought post…

I received this in email today and thought it was too good not to share it:  (you may have seen it already though)

Three Trees

Once there were three trees on a hill in the woods.  They were discussing their hopes and dreams when the first tree said, “Someday I hope to be a treasure chest. I could be filled with gold, silver and precious gems. I could be decorated with intricate carvings and everyone would see the beauty.”

Then the second tree said, “Someday I will be a mighty ship. I will take Kings and queens across the waters and sail to the corners of the world. Everyone will feel safe in me because of the strength of my hull.”

Finally the third tree said, “I want to grow to be the tallest and straightest tree in the forest. People will see me on top of the hill and look up to my branches, and think of the heavens and God and how close to them I am reaching. I will be the greatest tree of all time and people will always remember me.”

After a few years of praying that their dreams would come true, a group of woodsmen came upon the trees. When one came to the first tree he said, “This looks like a strong tree, I think I should be able to sell the wood to a carpenter,” and he began cutting it down. The tree was happy, because he knew that the carpenter would make him into a treasure chest.

At the second tree the woodsman said, “This looks like a strong tree. I should be able to sell it to the shipyard.” The second tree was happy because he knew he was on his way to becoming a mighty ship.

When the woodsmen came upon the third tree, the tree was frightened because he knew that if they cut him down his dreams would not come true. One of the woodsmen said, “I don’t need anything special from my tree, I’ll take this one,” and he cut it down.

When the first tree arrived at the carpenters, he was made into a feed box for animals. He was then placed in a barn and filled with hay. This was not at all what he had prayed for.

The second tree was cut and made into a small fishing boat. His dreams of being a mighty ship and carrying kings had come to an end.

The third tree was cut into large pieces, and left alone in the dark.

The years went by, and the trees forgot about their dreams.

Then one day, a man and woman came to the barn. She gave birth and they placed the baby in the hay in the feed box that was made from the first tree. The man wished that he could have made a crib for the baby, but this manger would have to do. The tree could feel the importance of this event and knew that it had held the greatest treasure of all time.

Years later, a group of men got in the fishing boat made from the second tree. One of them was tired and went to sleep. While they were out on the water, a great storm arose and the tree didn’t think it was strong enough to keep the men safe. The men woke the sleeping man, and He stood and said “Peace” and the storm stopped. At this time, the tree knew that it had carried the King of Kings in its boat.

Finally, someone came and got the third tree. It was carried through the streets as the people mocked the man who was carrying it. When they came to a stop, the man was nailed to the tree and raised in the air to die at the top of a hill. When Sunday came, the tree came to realize that it was strong enough to stand at the top of the hill and be as close to God as was possible, because Jesus had been crucified on it.

The moral of this story is that when things don’t seem to be going your way, always know that God has a plan for you. If you place your trust in Him, God will give you great gifts.

Each of the trees got what they wanted, just not in the way they had imagined.

We don’t always know what God’s plans are for us. We just know that His Ways are not our ways, but His ways are always best.

We have a new family member, or two… and they need names!

This has been a long long week.  I’ve been sick all week.. since New Year’s Day really.  I’ve actually started a couple blog posts this week, but they’re still sitting in my drafts folder.

I do have some good news from this week though!  Yesterday I met up with a woman who had four little Feist puppies that she’d been trying to give away.  I was supposed to have called her on Monday (got her name and number from my pastor Sunday night) but I was so sick that I just didn’t want to get on the phone; much less go look at puppies.  So hubs reminded me to call her yesterday and I did.  And in the nick of time too!

She had just loaded them in her car to take to the humane society.  (She is taking care of her sick parents and wasn’t able to keep the puppies any longer; and hadn’t found homes for them either.)  Well… being the sucker for dogs that I am, I brought all four pups home with me.  (I did call hubster first to make sure he wouldn’t be ready to divorce me…lol)

Little Boy Pup

We’re going to keep two of them, a male (in the pic above) and female (in the pic below), because I can’t decide which one I want to keep between the two of them.  My mom is getting one, and then today someone said he might want the last one.  How awesome is that?!  I just couldn’t bare the thought of those little cuties going to the humane society because most likely they’d have been euthanized.

Little Girl Pup

Anyway, now that we’ve decided to keep the male and female, we have to come up with names.  And I’m stumped.

HELP US NAME OUR NEWEST FAMILY MEMBERS! Perty please :)

Childhood memories!

This is so cool!  I love it!

I remember when my little brother was, well, wee little… we had a little red wagon and I used to pull him around in it. Fun fun! My Little Man loves wagons, and he would get such a kick out of this! (I’ll definitely be showing him this video!)

But is it really bad for me? Really?

I’ve heard all sorts of stories about the crazy cravings some women get while they’re pregnant.  I’ve probably read a few stories about theses crazy cravings, here and there, and for the most part they don’t seem all that crazy.  I’ve heard of women who actually do fit the idea of ‘typical’ pregnancy cravings– those associated foods that we’ve all heard at least once in our lifetimes.  Those aren’t bad cravings, though I don’t think I’d want to actually eat them together… at the same time. That would give a whole new meaning to sweet and sour, I think.

I’ve heard some doctors day that the cravings one has during pregnancy are indicative of something that the pregnant woman’s body is lacking… some sort of vitamin or mineral.  I could maybe see that with the pickle and ice cream craving thing… I mean pickles are cucumbers, and cucumbers are good for you, right?  And ice cream… well, that’s dairy- milk, calcium, etc.  And that’s good for you too, right?   And let’s be real here, who doesn’t love a nice bowl of ice cream, pregnant or not?!  (I know I do!!  even if my body doesn’t!)

But what about those strange cravings?  The ones you KNOW you wouldn’t have if your body was in its ‘normal’ state and your hormones weren’t doing somersaults on a tumbling mat during the Summer Olympics!  What could your body possibly want from them?  Vitamins?  Minerals?  Or is it just the smell that has you craving these not-so-good-to-eat things?   Mmmm, maybe.  I could probably believe that… after all, doesn’t your sense of smell multiply by like a million along with every other sense while you’re pregnant?

Well, every other sense except maybe your ‘common’ sense.  Because sometimes you just crave things that you know you can’t have… but at the same time you’re thinking “Oh what could it possibly hurt?”  Sometimes when we’re drooling over the strangest of things, our common sense goes right out the window.  But then again, sometimes that toss-out of common sense is backed by a doctor saying not to deprive your body of whatever it is you’re craving.  But, hello, you’re not supposed to leave off the part where you’ve been craving the glue holding the magnets on the back of those adorable little refrigerator decorations the kids made at summer camp last year!  Or those wonderful pink erasers at the end of your favorite pencils, no matter how good they smell!  Oh yeah, I’m pretty sure doc didn’t mean those cravings, at all!

Good ole doc doesn’t mind when your cravings involve actual food, because what’s the worse than can happen?  You eat like a bear and gain another ten pounds?  Meh, who cares.  It’s not like you’re ever going to have your pre-pregnancy body back anyway.  And who cares if you go back for seconds, or thirds, because.. the baby is hungry.  Right?  You’re eating for two!  No matter that your hips are as wide as that big brown truck, you’re eating for two.  TWO!  (or three, or maybe even four) And your craving is overwhelming your senses… you can taste it before you even take a single bite!  You know you’re supposed to eat healthy, but how unhealthy can it be?  It’s in a food group…. heck it’s ALL of the food groups rolled into one!  Couldn’t be any healthier than that, right?

Oh if it were only that easy.  It would have been so nice to have actually had such normal cravings.  Cravings that don’t go so far out of the realm of your normal everyday menu that people don’t look at you like you’re crazy.  Cravings that hit you at every inopportune moment of the day so hard that your mouth waters and all you can think about is sinking your teeth into every yummy morsel.  But, what if you can’t sink your teeth into something that is so deliciously tempting because it’s not good for you or the baby, and isn’t even edible?  Oh the disappointment.

That is the kind of craving I had.  I didn’t crave food.  I didn’t crave anything edible.  Nope.  I craved soap.  But not just any soap.  I craved a certain ‘flavor‘ of soap.  I craved it so bad it was hard not to at least taste it.  I craved it so bad I bathed no less than five times a day just so I could lather up and smell it; if I couldn’t smell it on my skin, I’d bathe again.  I craved it so bad… I cut up bars of it like it was my favorite cheese and melted it into a candle jar so I could place it on the warmer and have the whole house filled with the smell of it.  I used one solid bar in two days flat.  I bought bar soap and shower gel and everything related I could get my hands on.  I even washed my hair with the soap.  I would walk into the bathroom just to grab a bar and smell it.  WHAT could my body have possibly wanted from a bar of… soap?  Soap?  Really?  Couldn’t my body have wanted something good… like say chocolate?  But, soap?

Naturally, I had to be the one the doc would say “In all my years as an OB, I’ve never heard of anyone craving soap” to.  Coffee grounds, sure.  Dirt, sure.  Even metal.  But not soap.  Of course.  Because I can’t do anything normally.  Not even pregnancy.  :P   What about you?  Did you have any crazy cravings during your pregnancy?  I’d love to hear about them if you did.  (Really, I’d just love to know I’m not the only nutcase out there who craves totally inappropriate things during pregnancy.  We could a form club!  A crazy cravings club!  ;) )
