30 Day Blog Journal, the Final Two

Day 29 – hopes, dreams and plans for the next 365 days

Within the next 365 days, I hope to have sold our house and purchased one here in our hometown. I hope to be making plans to go on an overseas mission trip, and I hope to be sponsoring a second child through Compassion International (we haven’t been able to sponsor the first yet, but I am still hopeful that our finances will get better soon, especially once our house is sold). I also hope to be in a better position for volunteering with several non-profits in my local area that are dear to me. I would love nothing more than to spend my free time volunteering and spreading the love of Jesus to people!

Day 30 – a dream for the future

My dreams for the future are basically the same as my hopes and dreams for the next year.  But my dreams could always change, and wherever He leads, I will follow!

Day 27 – my worst habit

Oh boy, do I really want to admit this habit of mine (again)? Okay okay, I admit it (again), I am a horrible horrible procrastinator. I really am. I’m the world’s worst at putting things off (like laundry, cleaning, dishes, laundry, getting ready to go somewhere, and did I mention laundry?) to the last minute. The very last minute sometimes. It’s a really bad habit, this procrastination.
Day 28 – whats in my handbag/purse

Well, I have two.  One for everyday running around (like to the grocery store and stuff) that is small and only holds the essentials (cell, keys, license, debit card). And I have a large one that houses my Bible, two notebooks (one for taking notes in church, and the other is for planning my discipleship lessons), a planner/agenda/calendar, my Sunday school book, peppermints, small p&s camera, pens & pencils; and pockets for cell phone, license & cards, keys, and anything else I decide to add at the last minute.

Day 24 – where I live

the hot and muggy south! Okay, so it’s not hot and muggy right now… well actually, it is hot and muggy on some days still, just nothing like it was during the summer! I’m a Mississippi girl, born and raised! G-R-I-T-S (can you tell me what that means?) hehe

Day 25 – your day, in great detail

Oh wow, great detail huh? If I do that then you will all know just exactly how boring I really am! lol So… I was up by 6:30 (not unusual) and had my morning cups of java; checked e-mail and did some reading while drinking my coffee and waiting for the kids to wake up; fed the kiddos; worked on a new page on here; worked on a couple graphics; did some more reading; watched a movie with the kids; took Priss to a youth get-together; talked to hubs on the phone (he was at work); did some site maintenance and updates (not here, on another site); and now watching a football game with the hubster and updating my blog! See, I told ya I’m boring…lol

Day 26 – your week, in great detail

I don’t know if I can even remember why week in great detail! Monday– was a holiday so I spent it with the hubs and kids, doing as little as possible; watched some movies, did some blog reading and award giving-out; .

Tuesday– at lunch with my Lil Man at school. That was soooo awesome too! I also watched a pretty potent storm blow through. We had some pretty strong winds, heavy rain, and pea to dime-size hail (it hailed for about 20 minutes, longer than normal for these parts). There were even a few trees down here and there. I was most thankful for the rain though– we needed it desperately!

Wednesday- church! I love our Wednesday night Bible study!

Thursday- I didn’t feel very well Thursday. This pesky gallbladder (stones) has been giving me fits lately, and Thursday was one of those days. Other than that, it was the usual day– house cleaning, laundry, homework with kids, cooking, reading, blog reading, etc.

Friday- that was yesterday right? lol Yesterday was bill-paying day. Enough said. lol

I suppose I should have backed this up to an actual seven day week, but oh well. I call Monday through Friday the week, and Saturday and Sunday are the weekend. And I’ve already told you about today!

There are a few things that are part of my everyday routine, besides the cleaning and laundry and domestic stuff that I could just do without. I do a lot of reading– devotional reading, Bible reading, and my current book. I also watch two soap operas every Monday through Friday– Young and Restless and Days of Our Lives. (And that takes two whole hours of my day!)

And now… I’m going to fix something to eat because I’m hungry!!

Day 22 – a website

A web site.  Does a blog count?  Okay… let’s see.   There are many sites I enjoy visiting (many blogs too) but for this, I’m going to highlight one (or two) that I think is important:

Compassion International

I stumbled on Compassion a few weeks ago during Compassion Bloggers trip to Guatemala. I read the stories each blogger wrote of their experience in Guatemala and knew it was something I wanted to be involved in myself. THIS is one organization that is for real; no gimmicks; no scamming; 100% on the up-and-up. In an age where people don’t know who they can and can’t trust, this is ONE you CAN trust. Check out Compassion, and maybe if you’re in a position (financially), you can sponsor a child.

I said two didn’t I? You have to know if I featured Compassion that OCC is next. (See my sidebar?!)

Operation Christmas Child

I was never so happy when I found out last week that my WMU group is going to be participating in OCC. I had already planned to participate myself, and now my entire church will be fixing up shoe boxes to send to children in need. We will be sending one box from each of our kids– helping others in need while teaching our kids a valuable lesson at the same time. Check out Samaritan’s Purse and Operation Christmas Child, and if you’re not already participating, why not go ahead and send a shoe box or two to help children in need. It doesn’t cost much, but goes a long long way.

Day 23 – a youtube video

I share youtube videos on here pretty often, but I don’t think I’ve ever shared this one. It is one of my favorite songs by one of my favorite bands. As it happens, I will be spending the evening with this band, live, on October 22nd at the Extraordinary Women’s Conference and I.CAN’T.WAIT!

And come on, when do I EVER share anything in singles?

Day 21 – a recipe

I have a few recipes on my recipe blog, It’s Supper Time.  Check ‘em out!  I have a few new ones I’m going to be posting over there, one of which I’ll share here (and this one is not figure friendly, at all!!)

Southern Caramel Icing Cake

Cake:

  • 1 box Duncan Hines Butter Cake mix

Mix and bake according to box directions.  (bake in three layers)

Icing:

  • 3 cups + 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup evaporated milk (Pet or Carnation)
  • 1 stick butter
  • 1 tsp. vanilla

Mix sugar and milk and heat on medium.  Add one cup sugar in iron skillet and brown on medium heat.  When the milk and sugar mixture comes to a boil, add in browned sugar.  Be careful not to let it boil over.  Cook for 12 minutes, stirring constantly.  Pour into mixing bowl and add stick of butter and vanilla.  Let sit for 5 minutes.  After 5 minutes, start mixer (or begin mixing) and mix until smooth and creamy.  Ice tops of bottom and middle cake layers then stack all three layers; then ice entire cake.

*Tip- this icing does better when made in less humid weather, otherwise it will be too sticky
