Review: You Changed My Life by Max Lucado

You Changed My Life
Stories of Real People with Remarkable Hearts
By Max Lucado

“If someone has changed your life for the good, now is the time to celebrate by letting them know how much they matter.

Oftentimes true heroes of faith don’t stand out in the world, but they have made a lasting difference in someone’s life—they’re a hero to someone. This gift book celebrates their story by first providing a dedication beginning with “You changed my life by___” to be written in detail by the giver to the recipient. To follow are stories told by Max about others who have answered the call of their convictions and took steps of faith (both big and small) resulting in lasting change in the lives around them. It’s a message that honors the person who receives the book, and inspires us all to see that real people with remarkable hearts can change lives.” 1

I have to be honest, the only reason I chose this book was for its author.  Max Lucado.  He is a phenomenal writer and I have always enjoyed reading and learning from his books.  This one was no exception.  This book– simply put– is another of many wonderfully well written books by an author who has such a profound way of making us think beyond ourselves.

One of the most riveting stories, for me, was of a Franciscan priest imprisoned in a death camp in February of 1941.  This story not only touched my heart, it spoke to my soul.  This man of Christ loved with such ferocity that he was willing to give up his own life to save that of a complete stranger’s.  How much more awe inspiring can it get than such a Christ-like love? Each story is just as good as this one; the more I read, the more I wanted to continue reading.

If there is anyone in your life who has touched you in such a way; who has made a difference even in the smallest way, this book is a great gift to them.  If there is someone you know who may be going through a particularly hard time right now, this book would be a great gift for them as well.  It not only expresses heartfelt gratitude, but a love that extends from each and every page.  Each story touches the heart and says “You are remarkable” in its own way and leaves you with a feeling of incredible peace and hope.  Each page is beautifully illustrated; and each story includes scripture or quotes.

My rating:

On a scale of  one to five, I gladly give this book five stars:  It is a wonderful gift for any occasion for any special person in your life whether friend, family, neighbor, or even a stranger that has done a kind deed.
